For Filipinos wanting to get a visa to Japan, you must process your visa application via any of the accredited agency *
*There are a few exceptions to this rule, kindly scroll to the bottom of the post to see the list of exceptions.
Once you have filed the required papers and documents in your preferred travel agency, said agency will be the one who will pass your visa application to the appropriate embassy/consular office/personnel. If you need to follow-up on status of your Japan visa application, contact your agency and NOT the Japanese Embassy or Consular Office.
Please be aware that not all visa applications are successful. If your application was denied, know that you will not be refunded the visa fee payment you paid.
JAPAN VISA APPLICATION
- Required documents vary per visa type. – Before anything else, you need to identify what type of Japan visa you need for your travel. This is because the required documents you need to submit will depend on the visa type you need to get.
Types of Visa: Tourists, Visit Relatives, Visit Friends, Conference, Certificate of Eligibility, Medical Stay, Commercial Purposes, etc.
- You will need to fill-up completely and accurately the Japan visa application form.
- Pay the visa fee, the cost will depend on the visa type you are applying for. This fee is regulated by the Japan Embassy.
- Additional fee: Pay the corresponding handling fee levied by the travel agency who will assist you in processing your visa. A courier fee may also be charged by your travel agency if you opted to have your passport which is successfully stamped with Japan visa be delivered to your home or office.
The agency may also impose additional charges for special services like Long Term Visa with Certificate of Eligibility. Thus, it is best to ASK the agency about all the charges that will be imposed on your application for visa to Japan before you sign any paper.

**There are the cases exempted from ‘Japan visa application via accredited agency’. These cases can file visa application direct with the embassy and the consular offices.
(1) Diplomatic or Official visas
(2) Visas for invitees by the Japanese government organization/ institution, independent administrative agencies of Japan
(3) Visas for invitees of Japan local governments or national/municipal educational institutions of Japan to participate in educational/cultural exchange programs and youth exchange programs
(4) Visas for scholarship awardees sponsored by the government of Japan
(5) Visas for commercial purpose of employees of a joint venture company or a branch office of a Japanese enterprise listed in the Japanese Stocks Exchange or a member of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines
(6) For cases requiring humanitarian consideration such as serious illness of relative in Japan
(7) For cases wherein applicant has custody of biological child of Japanese national and the purpose is to raise that child in Japan by himself/ herself (This type of application may only be filed at the Embassy of Japan in Manila)
