Since 2019, the US Embassy has required VISA Applicats for immigrants and non immigrants to submit their social media accounts for the vetting process and assess the individual if they met the requirements for a VISA Approval.
But for this year, the US geovernment has required the applicants to set their social media accounts to “PUBLIC”.
The advisory was first published by the US Embassy in the Philippines on X on Tuesday, JUNE 24, 2025.

According to the U.S. embassy, this is “to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under U.S. law.”
In the latest advisory of the US Embassy in the Philippines, announced that all applicants for F, M, or J non-immigrant visas are requested to set their social media accounts to ‘public.’
“Effective immediately, all individuals applying for an F, M, or J nonimmigrant visa are requested to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to ‘public’ to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States,”
- F non-immigrant visa is granted to individuals wishing to pursue academic studies at a US educational institution.
- M non-immigrant visa is for individuals pursuing vocational or non-academic studies at a US institution.
- J non-immigrant visa is for individuals participating in designated exchange visitor programs, often involving cultural or educational exchange
So if you are planning to apply for a US VISA, then set your Facebook, X, Tiktok, Instagram and other social media accounts to the Public Setting.
