The Catholic Church is expecting 12 million ย visitors and devotees to ย participate in all of the activities for the Feast of the Black Nazarene or Pista ng Itim na Nazareno in Quipo starting on January 1 up to to January 9, 2014. This crowd number was estimated due to the 9 million devotess who attended the procession ย alone last year.

Many of the devotees walk the streets bare footed as a sign of their love and devotion to the Black Nazarene. Probably the most prominent public figure that joins the crowd during the procession is former Philippine Vice President and TV Patrol newscaster, “Kabayan” Noli De Castro.

The figure of the Black Nazarene arrived in Manila in May 30, 1606 thanks to the Agustinian Recollect friars. ย It was first housed in Bagumbayan, then transferred to San Nicolas Tolentino before finally brought to Quiapo Church.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene held every January 9 is to commemorate the image to the Minor Basilica in Quiapo or more popularly known as Translacion.

If you want to partake in this religious festival in the heart of Manila, please see the schedule below of the activities for the Quiapo Churh as well is in Quirino Grand Stand in Luneta,
